DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Diploma in Information Technology programme is designed to provide learners with foundational skills, knowledge and competencies in ICTs that enable them to install, oversee, tune, trouble-shoot and maintain computer systems and design solutions to common ICT challenges in organizations and among individual ICTs users. It is intended to provide learners with hands-on abilities so they can be ICT support staff in an organization or to start their own ICT services to meet the pervasive need for ICT technicians as computers become a must-have and essential gadget.

Programme Rationale

The importance of Information Technology (IT) to economic development all over the world is no longer in dispute as organizations use IT in nearly every aspect of their operations and decision-making. Workers are so reliant on IT that its absence can lead to total paralysis of work and zero institutional productivity. No wonder institutions invest in robust computing systems that can sustain the business operations under nearly any circumstance. To ensure optimal utility of these systems, there is a need for highly qualified technicians, highly qualified to ensure that the computer systems of organizations are not only up to the required standard, but also adapt to the changing needs of business as well as the changes in the world of technology. Having inhouse technicians not only saves costs but it is also more efficient. Furthermore, with in-house technicians, the company is more secure in terms of business secrets and internal knowledge sharing, which is why USJM started the Diploma in Information Technology.
